We have lived in our house now for six years and for the past two years I have been meaning to redecorate! This year is the year and I think there is something about Spring that inspires a freshen up.
One way that I am looking to transform my rooms in a simple yet effective way is by changing the curtains. I have always been a fan of keeping walls very simple so that an update is relatively straightforward and there are a few reasons why curtains are an easy way of doing this.
Impact
In a room where walls are plain, curtains are a simple way of making a statement. This can be subtle or a dramatic contrast and can create a real feature and talking point without having to go to great lengths to replace furniture or totally redecorate walls!

Light
Curtains are a fantastic way of making the most of the light coming into a room. Sheer fabrics can tone down harsh light and blackout linings can, as the name suggests, block out the light altogether which may be particularly useful in children’s bedrooms.

Atmosphere
Curtains are without a doubt the best way to create an atmosphere in a room. Designs can create the feel of, for example, minimalism with clean, cool lines or lush draping opulence with the fabric and weight of curtains and tie backs.

Perception
Hanging curtains higher above a window can create the illusion of height in a room or extending the rail past the edges of the windows can create an impression of width. Curtains are a fantastic way of creating architectural illusions.
Many people are put off by the idea of shopping for curtains so I often look online and a great range to choose from is the lovely linen curtains online from Yorkshire Linen. You can get them delivered to your door-step hassle free (my kind of shopping!)
I am really excited to be transforming the feel and look of my now tired rooms and I’ll be sure to keep you updated!
